Evelina and the car

Yesterday when I read that a train was pulling into the Louis Vuitton show, I knew that this would probably become the show of this season. Because in the end, it is not only about the clothes and collection you show, but also the little extra you give to the audience. The experience.

This season we have seen cars in the campaigns and fashion editorials, haven’t you noticed? Next fall it is time to change the vehicle to an old-fashioned train.

Does it have anything to do with what is shown at the cinemas? When Prada showed her spring collection 2012 with all the printed cars, the movie Drive by Nicolas Winding Refn just had its premiere. And this time, when Louis Vuitton is building a train station as their scene for the fashion show, it is time for the premiere of the movie Hugo (about an orphan who lives at a train station). Is it a coincidence or a conscious choice?

The spring of the white jeans
09:38 - 07/03/2012, Tags: , ,

Today I had an hour free to go for some shopping. My goal was to buy a pair of white jeans, and my first choice was of course to run to Topshop to see if they had a pair of Baxter jeans. I promise you, I have this model in every color! They are comfortable, fit perfectly and they are actually Emmanuelle Alt’s favorite jeans too.

The truth is that I already bought a pair from Whyred last week, but I am sure that this spring will be ”the spring of the white jeans”. I will wear them all the time with a black top, a black blazer or military green blouse. Don’t be scared to wear them even if it is not spring yet. They are even cooler in the winter!

Can a brand get too much attention?
09:35 - 06/03/2012, Tags: , ,

Taylor Tomasi-Hill in Milan.

When it comes to fashion I have a problem, which I think most fashion enthusiasts share with me. I get very picky about what I like in a specific season, which is good, but sometimes it can almost make me obsessed about a certain brand or piece.

The result of this obsession makes me loose my interest very quickly. I am not alone about this. I think this phenomenon has become more common in the fashion industry since we started to share the latest fashion news in a fast way through Internet and social media.

We don’t only receive the information about the latest and coolest handbag directly, but we are also almost forced to see the same one over and over again. It follows us through our search for the perfect wardrobe.

Two brands that have been mentioned many times in every magazine and blog during the past seasons are Isabel Marant and Céline. I guess that Phoebe Philo’s return and the fact that every Vogue Paris editor is wearing Isabel Marant boots, have turned the brands into two successful businesses. But lately I have been questioning if it is valuable – in the long run – for an exclusive brand to be seen everywhere.

I have been wondering if the success and increased sales for a specific period is beneficial when the customer gets tired of your product. What will happen when a buzz suddenly ends as a result of exaggerated exposure? If the brand, in worst case, becomes “unfashionable” – was it worth it to be on the top of the mountain? How are the brands dealing with these problems when “the golden era” is ending?

I think that Lanvin has kept the balance between being on “everybody’s wish list” without becoming too accessible. Tom Ford probably had this thought in mind when he kept his fashion show open exclusively to some chosen editors and guests.

Even if Céline’s official reason to why they decided to have two smaller, more intimate presentations was Phoebe Philo’s pregnancy, I think they succeeded once again to create a buzz and a feeling of mystery.

Vero Moda’s villa

Vero Moda invited me today to the office to talk about the latest collections. It was interesting to hear how Vero Moda is planning to change their image and develop the brand and product. The most impressing thing was the villa, where the office was located, which had an amazing view. Simone and I took the opportunity to go out and take some pictures. On this picture she is wearing a long dress from Vero Moda’s spring collection.

Anna Wintour is smiling
08:21 - 04/03/2012, Tags: ,

If you have followed my blog for a while, you know that I am almost more interested in the people in the fashion industry, than the clothes and collections. That’s why INDUSTRIE and Interview Magazine have become my favorites. With Internet is easy to find information and pictures of the people that inspire you. But it is hard to keep the pictures and save them in a safe place.

I have started my own Tumblr blog, ”Anna Wintour is smiling”, where I am going to post pictures of Anna, Emmanuelle, Carine and so on. It is simply a fun and small project and a good way to save the images I find. You can also help me of course, by sending me pictures to anna.kopito@fashionnetworks.se, and I will of course link to your blog.
